Our History

Our History

Originally founded as an occupational therapy service for children, Hand Skills for Children was founded by Lizette Alexander and Paula Cappadocia, occupational therapists, in 2000.

In 2011-2013 Lizette has had the privilege to work closely with Stacy Kramer OT Reg. (Ont).  Stacy held the position of Clinical Director and provided clinical training and support to all of our Occupational Therapists.  She was  originally trained in the US and she is certified in sensory integration and has received extensive training in the use of sensory processing as a framework when working with children. It is with Stacy’s support that the Toronto Children’s Therapy Center for Children expanded their service to address sensory concerns.  Stacy returned to Florida to continue with her career as an Occupational Therapist, however, she has left a significant mark with her contribution to what is now the Toronto Children’s Therapy Center.

In 2019, Lizette Alexander partnered with Annemarie Weeda, Speech-Language Pathologist, in order to provide a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach in supporting the children in our community.  The company name was changed to the Toronto Children’s Therapy Centre. We strive to provide neurodiversity affirming and play based therapy to support children’s participation in all areas of daily activity including social skills, communication skills, play, self-care (dressing, toileting, and feeding), and academic participation (writing and early reading skills).
